VC+ is a non-profit creative collective that uses creativity to fund and fuel existing charities. This year, we are teaming up with The Dreamfields Project to inspire young children to follow their passions & their talents.
The Dreamfields Project is a charity that operates in partnership with the department of education to help build and implement complete soccer facilities for schools in rural areas.
VC+SA will be a collaboration between VC+ and Dreamfields that will ultimately outfit 13 schools in the rural area of Cottondale with a beloved sport known to unite, empower & educate.
Soccer has always provided a way to teach kids about discipline, determination, team work and commitment. But the only way to allow soccer to be a positive force in schools is to allow children to play regular matches on a league basis – week in and week out.
VC+SA will build a long-term soccer infrastructure in Cottondale for 13 schools by outfitting the teams with uniforms, kits, goal posts, coaching and all the necessary equipment & support it takes to enjoy a game that can give back so much.
THE TEAMS THEMSELVES
WILL DESIGN THEIR UNIFORMS
As a team of creatives we know the importance of identity, design and ownership. So rather than just giving them a shirt, with an impersonal team name, color and logo, we took it one step further to give them the power to represent themselves.
For many, if not all of these kids, the uniform shirts we provide will be their first organized team uniform they ever wear. It will also most likely be the first time they wear something that isn’t second hand. But beyond just “shiny & new,” we have harnessed the children’s creative talent to give their soccer kits more value & meaning; not only for them but for their schools & their community.
A CREATIVE WORKSHOP
DESIGNED TO FILL
THE KIDS, SCHOOLS
+ COMMUNITY WITH PRIDE
In Feburary of 2014, VC+ and Dreamfields together traveled to a rural community in Mpumalanga wher e we held 13 creative workshops at 13 schools. We taught over 500 children about design and the power design has to communicate. We then helped them to use their own creative imaginations, talent, ideas and voice to concept & design their school’s team uniform.
A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT
In March, VC+ brought back all 13 school kit designs to New York City. We shared the children’s artwork with 13 acclaimed artists. Each artist has been as signed one school and will be bringing their school’s team logo & identity to completion.
Inspired and creative directed by the children themselves, brought to life by professional renown artists, our Dreamfields partner for the first time ever will have the unique opportunity to silk-screen on meaningful team identities for each team’s soccer kit.
Soccer has been a beloved South African sport and has been ignited in the hearts of South Africans even more since the hosting of 2010 World Cup. In South Africa soccer continues to educate, empower and strengthen children & communities. Soccer fields have become a place of common ground between rich and poor, black and white, brown and yellow, advantaged and disadvantaged.
Our mission for VC+SA is to help support Dreamfields and their efforts to provide soccer into townships and rural schools across South Africa as well as to inspire and ignite even one child to follow his or her passions and talent — be it on the soccer field, in the creative field, or wherever their heart pulls them.
A CELEBRATION OF
VC+SA is currently underway and while you can join our journey on facebook and/or instagram, you can also join us at one of our upcoming VC+SA fundraising events. Our first VC+SA event took place on June 26th at the NYIT Adititorium in New York City, where we premiered our first VC+SA Film and also revealed our 13 artists! Thank you to all those that joined us in support for the evening! What an incredible turn out. For all those that missed it, go to + Film Screening for a second look. Coming up soon in July/August we will unveil all the children’s artwork and our incredible artists’ final team logo designs at our VC+SA Art Exhbition in NYC. Tickets for + Art Exhibition are not yet available for purchased but stay tuned!
On September 29th 2014, VC+ and Dreamfields will reunite in Mpumalanga and hand deliver the final, personalized, first-of-its-kind, team soccer kits to each of the 13 schools.
On October 3rd, VC+SA will activate the first soccer tournament ever in this cluster of schools — in which of course the children will be proudly wearing their new team uniforms.
100% of all donations made to VC+SA this summer will go towards implementing full soccer kits + soccer facilites at each of these schools. Any additional funds raised beyond our current goal needed will go towards helping support these children and theirs schools.
Founded by former “VC” graduates that majored in Visual Communications, VC+ is a collective of creative professionals that uses our creativity to fund, fuel & raise awareness for existing charities. We are a tight knit creative family of doers, thinkers and makers that collaborate together to ignite, strengthen and support people & organizations that are already doing good things. As professionals in photography, film, advertising, design & entertainment, we know how to use creativity to start conversations, tell stories, solve problems, and ultimately influence people & culture.
We know and recognize that there are already so many charities out there doing good. We don’t need to be another one. Instead, we can use what we are good at (creativity) to help existing charities push forward, get stronger & do more. We have good hearts & good ideas. And love collaboration.
As a creative collective, our team is never limited and instead constantly growing stronger with other like-minded creatives. Meet our current VC+SA team below. And don’t hesitate to contact us should you want to join in. We have open arms, minds & hearts.
co-founder / creative director
After graduating from University of Delaware with a BFA in Visual Communications, Kristen has spent 10+ years servicing big brands with creative ideas through advertising, entertainment and branded content. She now wants to service hearts & humanity. As a creative thinker, do-er, maker, writer, designer, photographer, strategist and storyteller, she never stops working; but according to her, when you love what you do, it’s not work. For the past ten years she’s been a workhorse in New York City, where she met her South African husband who has successfully managed to add adventure, travel & culture into her life – which she is grateful for, everyday.

+ DREAMFIELDS PROJECT
Dreamfields is a charity that operates in partnership with the Department of Education in South Africa to help build soccer facilities (DreamFields) and provide soccer equipment (DreamBags) for townships and rural schools. Lead and founded by John Perlman since 2007, Dreamfields has been providing in-need (non-government funded) communities with the entire 360 of soccer facilities, equipment, fields and resources.
Dreamfields believes soccer is a team game, and teams build better schools and better students — so they provide DreamBags, full sets of kit, to schools across the country. They additionally believe people love sharing, and so they stage DreamEvents to celebrate the spirit of soccer. And they believe that lasting change must transform the places where children play — and are helping to restore soccer fields wherever we can and build new ones wherever they are needed.
